Topics: Future of South Road/Sturt Road intersection upgrade

David Bevan: So what’s happened to the other underpasses? Both in the north and in the south. Andrew Southcott is the federal Liberal MP for Boothby, so he is worried about the south, good morning Andrew Southcott.

Andrew: Good morning David.

David: What are your concerns regarding the South Road/Sturt Road intersection?

Andrew: My concerns are this project was announced in 2005. In the 2006 State Budget they said that they would be committed to planning work to this underpass. We have had several press releases from Anthony Albanese and Patrick Conlon saying that the Sturt Road, there would be a fly over or underpass at Sturt road.

But I’ve looked at the figures as well, and essentially there is, of the $930m by both Federal and State Governments that’s allocated for the South Road upgrade, $812m is going on the Superway, and $70m is going on the planning study.

Now that only leaves $48m to do a grade separation at what is a very complex part of South Road and I think this has been, this was announced back in 2005, I think the south have really been short changed here and it’s one of the things that the State Government have really glossed over, but I think they have definitely put this grade separation at Sturt Road on the backburner.
